Given name Gianni Rivera, the 19 year old Canadian artist known as JT Soul was raised in the Saint-Léonard borough of the up & coming Montreal city. The name JT comes from the street he grew up on, Jean-Talon boulevard. Being born to a Peruvian and Portuguese family of STL, the young emcee was surrounded by music since young and started rapping early, opening for artists like Rich Homie Quan at only 15 years old. His deep voice and entrancing tone is what sets JT apart and he uses it to his advantage, switching between melodic singing to his signature rap style with ease.
In 2016 JT signed to the the independent record label ODDIO Ent. In only his first year of releasing music professionally, he’s put out an impressive catalog, including music videos, shows, interviews and media coverage. His unique cadence even earned his debut EP ‘372 ; Velvet Tears’ #10 in France and #18 in Canada on iTunes’ R&B Charts back in 2016.
While working towards the release of his next project due out in Spring 2019, JT’s been dropping a number of singles this summer, each of which proved how JT has levelled up on all fronts since his debut. From his pop single LOUD to the hard-hitting Perplexed, even his feature on France producer Clement Bazin’s electronic album, JT proved his versatility can master any style.
“At only 19, the RnB artist alternates with ease between warped vocals reminiscent of Daniel Caesar and a hammering rap flow inherited from Joey Bada$$.” – Vice
Most recently he selected 2 outstanding cuts from his song bank to deliver a smooth and funky 2-track Bona Fide Lovin’ EP produced by Planet Giza’s Rami B. JT was also featured on Clement Bazin’s summer tour dates at Festival de Jazz a Montreal and Festival d’été de Quebec, as well as his own shows for the MEG Festival and Canadian Music Week, with a couple smaller shows throughout the Quebec region.
